Band of Small, Local Non-Profits Cooperate to Raise $250,000

Raise a boatload of money and then divide it up between 146 different non-profit

groups.  Sound crazy?  Or maybe it’s a stroke of genius!

Fundraising is typically very challenging for small non-profits. It’s expensive and time consuming, and in many cases unprofitable. This wasn’t the case this weekend in Santa Cruz, when a collection of non-profit organizations hosted the 31st annual Human Race Walkathon and Fun Run.

146 small, local non-profit organizations got together to raise money as a group (they will later divide it up amongst themselves). The event was so popular that somewhere between 1,500 & 1,700 people participated (up from 1,200 last year) and the event is expected to generate about $250,000 (up from $200,000 in 2010)!

By working together these non-profits made fundraising for “the little guys” possible.   Amazing!
